The Latest Red Piranha News

Talking about July, what a month it was!

It surely had us on our toes on the events front, not just in Australia but also in India. Yes, you heard it right!

Our CEO, Adam Bennett, joined Western Australia's Invest and Trade Mission to India. Adam met industry leaders in India to discuss the India-Australia Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA) and how it will help the two nations collaborate and grow. He also talked about the growing need for a secure ecosystem for businesses and introduced our cybersecurity solutions.

We participated in the ConnectIT Asia-Pacific 2022 in Sydney, where our security experts talked about the current threat landscape and how MSPs can grow their business and protect their clients. Our security experts also got the opportunity to showcase our suite of cybersecurity products and services.

We are proud to announce that Red Piranha is now ISO 9001:2015 certified for Quality Management Systems, complementing our ISO 27001:2013 Information Security Management certification. As a next-generation solution provider, we take pride in shaping the future of the infosec industry.

Red Teaming: Penetration Testing taken to the Streets

News3

More and more organisations that have invested in security are now looking to validate the effectiveness of that investment. This moves past testing for vulnerabilities which is typically something organisations do when assessing budgetary requirements for the adoption of ongoing solutions to security challenges. Red teaming offers organisations the ability to test their security technology, teams, and processes. This is the Blue team, whether insourced or outsourced, the defenders are required to demonstrate capabilities against a realistic attack campaign, which goes beyond identifying vulnerabilities and remediating them. Live exercises are designed to simulate what real threat actors will, and must do to achieve their objectives, as they are often without inside knowledge of their target. Red teams, therefore, enter a world of espionage to conduct reconnaissance and develop deceptive strategies to gain access and evade detection.

Red Piranha offers two types of live-fire attack simulations. Red teaming is the most clandestine, where both Red and Blue Teams compete in a double-blind scenario. The Blues are unaware they are being tested, while the Red team must achieve their objectives without any prior knowledge of the defender's capabilities. Purple teaming, on the other hand, is an open book exercise. Both teams work together with full knowledge of what each is doing as they do it. This is ideal for training and developing familiarity with systems and processes. Purple teaming exercises are often run in addition to and post double-blind exercises to revise and improve defences.

In double-blind exercises, the term Purple team is still employed to refer to the team member who takes on a role that is somewhere between a coach and referee. The idea is that they observe activities so that risks are managed and that activities are assessed objectively. Like scrum masters, these team members coordinate reporting and facilitate outcomes resulting from SWOT and gap analysis. All activities are planned through working groups and commencement activities are initiated and managed as many organisations do through Change Enablement.

Entering beyond the technical and into the social may take things to the streets, but cyber exercises are not for backyard operations.
