Skype users are facing massive outages across Europe and some parts of North America. According to some unconfirmed sources the outage might have also affected California, South Africa and Japan. The company confirmed in its connectivity problems update page that they are aware of the problem and are looking into it.
The outage was first experienced on June 19 after users reported that they were unable to connect via Skype. After the problem was reported Microsoft released a statement in its blog, “Hello, we are aware of an incident where users will either lose connectivity to the application and may be unable to send or receive messages. Some users will be unable to see a black bar that indicates them that a group call is ongoing and longer delays in adding users to their buddy list.
There are no reports released by Microsoft pointing out to the regions affected by the outage. However, after constantly monitoring tweets this morning we here at Red Piranha are pretty much certain that Europe is worst hit. This information has also been confirmed in a website called DownDetector which reports service interruptions across the world.
DownDetector also reports that there was a spike in outages reported by Skype users on June 13, 2017 as well. There have been no updates from Microsoft so far on when it would release a fix for the issue.
